Why do incompetent people so often rise to the top — and why do the competent so often fall silent? Morocracy names a system in which power detaches from ability: where loyalty outweighs merit, conformity displaces judgement, and the mediocre are not merely tolerated but actively rewarded.
Drawing on the cultural, institutional and epistemological roots of this drift, the book traces how professional standards collapse, capable individuals are marginalised or silenced, and public trust quietly erodes.
The result is a peculiar kind of stagnation — visible in the public sector, universities and corporations alike — in which advancement depends less on what one knows than on whom one obeys.
Morocracy is a diagnosis and a provocation: a defence of competence, responsibility and institutional reason against the slow, almost imperceptible normalisation of decline.

Darko Tipurić is Full Professor and MBA Programme Director at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb, Croatia, where he also previously served as Dean and as Head of the Department of Organization and Management. He is President of the Croatian Economic Association and President of the Croatian Corporate Governance and Management Society, and a member of numerous academic and professional associations across Europe. He has (co) authored several hundred scholarly articles and more than twenty books in the fields of corporate governance, strategy, and leadership.
